My World Gathering
Kia ora everyone! Welcome to this discussion page about the World Gathering of Young Friends. Please feel free to add comments, photos, etc. I'm hoping that this blog will give us the chance to talk with each other even though we live far apart :0) At the World Gathering I had the opportunity to meet many interesting people, and to start discussing all kinds of issues (environmental sustainability, religion, ethics . . .) I would love this talk to grow, so please join in and share your wisdom :0)
Well, my WGYF report has now been published in the NZ Quaker Newsletter, so I reckon maybe there's a need for a general post about that. I have to admit I was hoping to be very slightly contentious, so I'd be really interested to hear whether or not anybody thinks I was (lol)! Penny for your thoughts?

I'm kind of excited to think about the variety of people who might eventually find their way to this site. Certainly there will be some New Zealand F/friends. If you would like to include your first name and/or country with your comment, I'm sure that would be really interesting to other readers. If you'd rather not, then that's ok too :0) This blog cannot be found on normal internet searches . . . it is only available to people who have been given the specific address. So, the people who come here will probably be other friends of mine, or have links to Quakerism.
One of the things I found at the Gathering is that it can be very disheartening to listen to someone tell you what is 'good' or 'right' or 'evil' or what Quakers REALLY believe . . . I don't want anybody to feel left out here, so please be careful to speak only about/for yourself. There was a lot of stuff I heard at the Gathering that inspired me, even though it didn't 'fit' me at all. I hope that this will be a place where people can ask questions (of themselves, or each other), without anybody feeling that they have all the answers . . .

Julian: Well, I don't know how you do it Leith, but you've done it again. Reading your report again yesterday in the Newsletter, combined with a particular piece of Ministry at Meeting today has brought me to the point where I'm finally ready to apply for membership. You have challenged and helped expand my faith more than anyone else I know. I want to thank you for being you. (06/24/06)
